Antique Georgian brooch featuring a halo of flat cut garnet gemstones surrounds a larger rectangular garnet stone. The gemstones are foil backed which means foil has been added to the back of the stones to reflect the light giving more depth to the stone. This process was very popular during this period. The brooch is set in 9ct rose gold.
Garnets were used extensively in all different designs of Georgian and Victorian jewellery, bracelets, rings, brooches and elaborate necklaces, they represent the birthstone of January.
